The West Coast Wonders is a fantasy football side in the Sweet FA. The Wonders were formed in Season 01 as the Seventh Wonders, before changing their name to the West Coast Wonders in Season 07.
History[edit | edit source]
The West Coast Wonders (formerly known as "Seventh Wonders") were the seventh team to enter the SFA before Season 01 had commenced. Despite finishing that year with a 6 win and 6 loss record, the Wonders squeezed into the Top 4 to qualify for the finals by a decent 12% over Team Timmy. They entered the finals race against Team Kournikova (whom finished 1st), Dragons (2nd) and Team Pump (3rd) but eventually shone through in the Grand Final, defeating Team Kournikova by 37 points; 17.21 (123) to 12.14 86.

Since then, the Wonders have braved 6 more grand finals (Seasons 2, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17 & 21) winning four of those (Season 13, Season 15, Season 17 & Season 21). The name was changed to the "West Coast Wonders" prior to Season 07 but contrary to popular belief, it was not a merge with former club, "West Coast Magic" who had folded in Season 05. It spawned a new era for the cub and simulated a resemblance with AFL Team, the West Coast Eagles. Despite claims that there was a clear affiliation between the two, the Wonders assertively supported an argument that stated they only shared the same home ground, Subiaco, and that the club was open to any poster regardless of their AFL team.

Season 15 (2012)[edit | edit source]
At the start of season 15 the Wonders decided to reinvent themselves and start a new and successful era for the club. This started with croweater 41 and ClarkeM handing over the captaincy to the loyal ShaunDuggan while making Wise Guy Sam the vice captain for the Wonders. Other changes included the move from Subiaco to their new stadium, The Colosseum and updated their jerseys with a more modern look to appeal to their fans. There was also a influx of new and young talent that was brought in to turn the Wonders into premiership contenders with the signings of BoshtrichBurger, Frothies McVeigh, Storm20, Coopers, PVF and the TheFreshBanana just to name a few.
The changes seemed to have worked with the Wonders being high on the ladder for all of Season 15. A slight loss of form at the end of the season cost them the chance to take out the minor premiership but were still able to hold onto second position and have the double chance for the finals series. In the first bout of the Finals, the Wonders defeated the top placed Baghdad Bombers earning their spot in yet another Grand Final. After the Furies had beaten the Bombers a week later, the Fighting Furies and the Wonders would again face-off in another Grand Final. This was emulated by the Season 10 result where the Furies smashed the Wonders by a record margin. Fighting Furies 19.19 (133) def. West Coast Wonders 9.17 (71). The Wonders of old and new were keen to give out some payback and on the 5th of November, 2012, the West Coast Wonders would go on to accumulate the highest Grand Final score of all time, beating the Fighting Furies by a single goal. West Coast Wonders 20.17 (137) def. Fighting Furies 19.17 (131)[1]:. This marked their third trophy in 15 seasons in the competition, placing them equal first in total premierships with the befallen Furies.

Season 16 (2013)[edit | edit source]
The Wonders were hungry to become the first team since the Fighting Furies to win back to back premierships and at the start of Season 16 got off to the start they were looking for, winning 10 of their first 13 games of the season. However things came crashing down for the Wonders with them losing 4 out of the their 5 last games of the season to head into the finals in poor form. They would face the Furies, a Grand Final rematch, in their first round of the finals and in a tight competitive game the Wonders would fall short by three points against their rivals. Things turned bad to worse for the Wonders with co-captain Wise Guy Sam announcing to the SFA world that he would be joining the Wonders newest rivals, the Gold City Royals for Season 17 as their new captain. With three straight losses in a row and a elimination game against the Swamprats coming up the club was at it's lowest point for the season. But the Wonders were able to get themselves together and pull out a thrilling 4 point win over the Swamprats in front of their home crowd. Ultimately the Wonders would be eliminated from the finals seven days later against the East Side Hawks by a disappointing 59 points. A month later at the SFA awards night, current Wonders vice-captain at the time PVF would go on to win his first Mobbenfuher Medal and for the second year in a row a Wonder would receive the league's highest honour after Wise Guy Sam won it in Season 15.
Season 17 (2013/14) The New Era[edit | edit source]
Soon after Season 16 finished, the Wonders would go on to be apart of one of the most controversial off-seasons in the club's history. Former Co-Captain Wise Guy Sam would move on to captain the Royals, the Wonders top poster in wmoore would head over to the Roys, rookie Danger in Texas would join the Demons and in a move that shocked the SFA landscape, former Wonders premiership captain ShaunDuggan would leave the club just a couple of weeks after handing over the captaincy reigns to PVF and team up with SFA bad boy The Jet to join the Swamprats. The Wonders did their best to replace these great players and recruited former Roys player Pantskyle and was promoted to Vice-Captain of the Wonders, they then hit the double whammy by recruiting Dragon players Gibbsy and Speck in a move that angered some of the SFA public. The Wonders also looked to gain some new blood to the team and signed rookies Brown Bottle, QS, Jarlcorbz, Tiff and SSwans2011 to add some youth into the side. The opening round of Season 17, facing the Gold City Royals, was an important match for the Wonders, as then Royals player Uncle_Leo had written scathing articles about the West Coast Wonders regarding their off season departures and inclusions, "Wonders Don't Need Pants[2]" and "Is it any Wonder?[3]". The lead up to the game provided great banter from both sides, which the match rewarded with a highly intense game, with PVF's first game as captain to kick the winning goal for the Wonders to win. West Coast Wonders 12.5 (77) def. Gold City Royals 10.11 (71)[4]. During the lead up to the Round 7 clash with the Geelong Gumbies, controversy began when poster's relatives were being brought up in the match thread banter. The West Coast Wonders have a strict policy against this, in which Vice-Captain Pantskyle had a differing personal opinion. This eventually led to Pantskyle stepping down as Vice Captain and traded to the Roys FFC for 6 packets of Wherthers Originals, on the 2nd last day of trade period, and only three days away from the Gumbies match.
The Wonders entered round 18 in sixth, needing to win against the top of the table Mount Buller Demons or risk the Baghdad Bandits leapfrogging them into finals action. Thankfully for the Wonders, they triumphed over their long-time rivals. Despite an underdog status they defeated third-placed Geelong Wolves in the first elimination final, who were defending their premiership from the previous season. Another win over the East Side Hawks ensured they had outlasted their fellow elimination finalists to book a preliminary final birth, once again against the Demons. Despite the unprecedented idea of a team making a grand final from sixth on the ladder, they did, defeating the minor premiers for the second time in four weeks and setting up a grand final against Dragons FFC, who were seeking to break their premiership drought. Tipped to be a close match, the Wonders shocked again, leading all the way to triumph by 37 points and secure a fourth premiership.

Notable Figures[edit | edit source]
EKA (EaglesKickAss) is the league's highest game record holder as he started his season with the Seventh Wonders in Season 01. He was inducted into the SFA Hall of Fame and his #10 jersey had been retired by Season 14 co-captains Croweater 41 & ClarkeM prior to handing over the captaincy to ShaunDuggan for Season 15 and just after EKA had announced his retirement.
Croweater 41 won the inaugrual EKA Medallist for best new player in the league (assimilated to the AFL's Rising Star award). This was awarded in Season 09 as the Wonders finished 2nd on the ladder awarding them another finals berth.
ClarkeM is the oldest active player for the West Coast Wonders. He has been involved with the club since parting ways from former club, Mt. Buller Demons, halfway through Season 8. Since then, he has notched up a total of 160 games, including two premierships (Seasons 13 and 15), and is also renowned for being a servant to the league. He is the self-proclaimed club president.
